I am a creator of alternative Bar and Bat mitzvahs, weddings, memorial and other spiritual services, and a lay leader of musical, earth-based, joy-filled ceremonies. I'm happy you found me. Welcome.
Years ago, I helped co-found a new synagogue and there re-discovered Judaism, as an adult. I ultimately found, as I had found earlier in life, that organized religion was not my way. I took all the beauty and the lessons I learned in my years of study, and continued to celebrate my heritage. I have led interfaith services and retreats for clergy, and I perform weddings and holiday celebrations, but most of my work is in the world of alternative Bar and Bat Mitzvah services, outside of a synagogue setting. Each ceremony I create is unique to that family and child, and is often interwoven with other cultural traditions. Many interfaith families, as well as Jewish families who are uncomfortable in the traditional synagogue setting or are not members of a temple, find deep meaning and involvement in the process of working together and co-creating their child's Coming of Age ceremony.
In recent years, the act of performing a wedding ceremony, tailored to each couple's desires, has also come to be one of my favorite things to do. Sharing the joining of two strands of love into one is an honor and a joy. I am an ordained minister, and love the act of affirming love in this world. After a career as a public defender in the state and federal courts of New York, I now live in the Hilltowns of the Berkshires in western Massachusetts, long a home of my heart.
